Sugar Glider Giving Birth
A sugar glider is pregnant for 16 days, at which point she gives live birth. The female will lick a path from her cloaca to her pouch for the joey to more easily migrate to the pouch. Once in the pouch, the joey will latch onto one of four teats. Its underdeveloped mouth will swell over the teat to help prevent it from dislodging. The joey will remain in the pouch and continue to develop for 70 days. The day the joeys come out of pouch (referred to as OOP), is what is typically considered its birthday and how age is then determined.
